Montag, 13. September 2021: First Sentier Investors und Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) ernennen Velina Karadzhova zur Leiterin des kürzlich gegründeten First Sentier MUFG Sustainable Investment Institute.
Karadzhova wird die Entwicklung des Forschungsprogramms des Instituts verantworten, das Forschung auf Makrolevel zu nachhaltigen Anlagethemen, Markttrends und Branchenpraktiken betreiben wird. Im Rahmen von Studien wird untersucht, welche Auswirkung die Entwicklung hin zu mehr Nachhaltigkeit auf die Leistung von Unternehmen, Sektoren und Volkswirtschaften sowie auf die Kapitalallokation von Investoren hat. Karadzhova wird eng mit dem externen Beirat des Instituts zusammenarbeiten, der sich aus Akademikern und Branchenführern aus dem Nachhaltigkeitsbereich zusammensetzt. Der Beirat gestaltet die Forschungsagenda des Instituts mit und stellt sicher, dass die Forschung höchste wissenschaftliche Standards erfüllt.
Will Oulton, Global Head of Responsible Investment bei First Sentier Investors und Vorsitzender des Instituts, sagt: „Velina besitzt umfassende Forschungserfahrung im ESG-Bereich. Dies ist für ihre neue Aufgabe als Institutsleiterin von zentraler Bedeutung, um das Forschungsprogramm für nachhaltiges Investieren voranzutreiben. Die Berichte werden kritische, dringliche und zu wenig beachtete Nachhaltigkeitsthemen aufgreifen und gleichzeitig Maßnahmen aufzeigen, die die Branche und die Gesellschaft ergreifen können, um diese Probleme zu lösen.“
Karadzhova kommt von MSCI, wo sie als ESG-Analystin tätig war und den Bereich geleitet hat, der den Versorgungssektor abdeckt. In ihrer Verantwortung lagen neben der Forschung rund um den Versorgungssektor und der Analyse von Unternehmen auch ESG-Ratings, die Verbesserung der ESG-Methodologie sowie die Entwicklung neuer Produkte. Davor war sie Credit Ratings Analyst bei Moody's und Senior Associate in der Wirtschaftsprüfung bei PwC.
Das Institut wurde im Mai 2021 gegründet, um eigene, qualitativ hochwertige Forschungsergebnisse zu neu entstehenden nachhaltigen Anlagethemen zu veröffentlichen, die in der Branche bislang noch nicht im Fokus standen. Ziel ist es, das Bewusstsein der Branche für nachhaltige Investitionen zu schärfen und konkrete Maßnahmen aufzuzeigen, über Markttrends und Best Practices zu berichten und ein besseres Verständnis dafür zu fördern, wie sich diese Themen auf die langfristige Anlageperformance auswirken können.
Der erste Bericht des Instituts mit dem Titel “Microplastic pollution: causes, consequences and issues for investors” (Verschmutzung durch Mikroplastik: Ursachen, Folgen und Herausforderungen für Investoren) beleuchtet das wachsende Problem der Verschmutzung druch Mikroplastik. Dies ist eine der signifikantesten und gleichzeitig am meisten vernachlässigten Bedrohungen für unsere Meere. Die Studie zeigt, welche wichtige Rolle Investoren spielen können, wenn sie Unternehmen und Regierungen dazu ermutigen, weniger Mikroplastik in die Umwelt gelangen zu lassen..
Die Veröffentlichung des nächsten Berichts ist für das vierte Quartal 2021 geplant. Dieser befasst sich mit Emissionen synthetischer Mikrofasern in die Umwelt und den von ihnen verursachten Schäden.
