First State Investments rebrands to First Sentier Investors

22 September 2020

First State Investments, a leading global investment manager, announced it is operating worldwide under the new brand, First Sentier Investors, effective today.

The new brand reflects its desire to be a unified global business, and concludes one of many programs of work underway to establish it as a standalone business following its transition in ownership to Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. in August last year.

First Sentier Investors manages more than US$148 billion in assets under management as of 30 June 2020 on behalf of investors across Asia, Australasia, Europe and North America. The firm offers a comprehensive suite of active investment capabilities across global and regional equities, cash and fixed income, infrastructure, and multi-asset solutions.

There is no change in the investment teams or investment process as a result of the rebrand. First Sentier Investors is the home of investment teams Stewart Investors and FSSA Investment Managers and these teams will continue to operate under their current brand names. The firm’s commitment to incorporating ESG principles across processes and strategies remains central to each investment approach.

First Sentier Investors Chief Executive Officer Mark Steinberg said: “Today is an important day for our business. It has been just over a year since we became First Sentier Investors in Australia, and today we become unified under one brand as the name change becomes effective across all markets.

“As a global business, we have a complex and diverse client base, which means there are clear benefits to having a unified global corporate brand name. While we are a portfolio of brands, the corporate brand provides a unifying element and a common vision and purpose.”

Acting Managing Director Asia and Managing Partner FSSA Investment Managers Michael Stapleton added, “We continue to see Asia as a key growth market for the business. We have been operating successfully in the Asian market for more than 30 years, with an enviable reputation for delivering consistently for clients. Our corporate brand change does not affect our investment teams or the way they manage assets, and we are well placed to maximise growth opportunities in the region.”

In Australia, the firm has operated as First Sentier Investors since September 2019, where it was earlier known as Colonial First State Global Asset Management.
