Stewart Investors manage investment portfolios on behalf of our clients over the long term and have held shares in some companies for over 20 years. They launched their first investment strategy in 1988.
Our philosophy is very simple. We are constantly searching for high quality businesses and when we acquire them, we will work relentlessly with them to create long-term sustainable value through innovation, ESG-led and proactive asset management.
Due to the relative stability of the country and the lack of invaders throughout much of Japan’s history, Japanese businesses have been able to survive. In fact, Japan dominates the list of the oldest companies in the world, taking the five top spots.
The companies that have survived for 1000 years include construction companies building temples, hotels and religious goods manufacturers. In case you thought Sake breweries would be on the list, the oldest Sake company is around 850 years old. Still young by Japanese standards!
