First Sentier Investors appoints new Deputy CEO

Friday, 4 March 2022: Leading global investment manager, First Sentier Investors (FSI), today announced the appointment of Yoshiki Ueno to the role of Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

New York-based Ueno has been with FSI since August 2019 as Head of US Governance. In his role, he worked closely with Managing Director, Americas, Bachar Beaini, as he managed the US consultation and reporting process with FSI’s US parent companies - MUFG Americas and MUFG Fund Services (USA).

Prior to his time at FSI, Ueno spent over 20 years at FSI’s shareholder Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation (The Trust Bank) in a variety of roles including corporate finance, strategy planning for asset management and investor services business, and project management office of integration projects.

In his new role, Ueno will relocate to Sydney to support FSI’s CEO Mark Steinberg in the implementation of the firm’s strategy and as a liaison to The Trust Bank.

The Deputy CEO role is appointed by The Trust Bank with a typical tenure of two to three years. Ueno replaces Yutaka Kawakami, who will be returning to Tokyo to assume a new role of Managing Executive Officer, Deputy Chief Executive, Asset Management & Investor Services Business Unit, Business Head, Asset Management Business at The Trust Bank. In his new role, Kawakami will remain engaged with FSI and will retain his position on the FSI Holdings Board.

Steinberg welcomed Ueno to his new role and thanked Kawakami for his dedication and commitment over the past two and a half years.

“I look forward to working closely with Ueno-san in his new role. I would also like to thank Kawakami-san for his support. He joined at a pivotal time in our transition and his oversight of the project management office and its wide variety of critical transition projects, coupled with his insights into The Trust Bank and guidance on collaboration have ensured our success in creating a strong, independent asset management business and an enduring, transparent relationship with our shareholder,” Steinberg said.
